Friday 3rd November 2023

Heading across the sky above me was a huge flock of Wood Pigeons, a quick estimated count numbered over 800 birds, the sky not quite black but still a very impressive sight to behold.

The sea has settled down from yesterday, now just white crests rolling into the cliffs rather than throwing themselves over the top, so on this gentler state a couple of Shags were bobbing.

Gliding by, the distinctive shape of a Peregrine Falcon, the shortish, pointed wings, stocky body and grey colour, as well as the way it was moving making it easy to identify this morning.

The bright yellow flowers of a Gorse bush, highlighted by the early sunlight a lovely feature to enjoy, a mass of spider web strewn across and between the spiky green spines.

From within came the rat-tat-tat of a Wren, the noisy blast making me stop to find the bird, which was spotted perched with its tail erect.

Showing well are the clumps of vibrant red berries of the Dog Rose dangling from the prickly stems, the leaves having disappeared leaving the oval hips to admire.

On the downland a selection of fungi are to be spotted including some magnificent Parasols, some small puffball types Lycoperdon depressum and some Field Blewitts, plus the slimy looking Coprinus plicatilis

The tinkling call of a charm of Goldfinches, was as the name suggests charming.  As these birds flew across above me, the sun reflected on the golden flashes on their wings.

From the top of a haw berry covered Hawthorn, the squawking of a Jay, while soaring from north to south was a Raven, cronking noisily as it did so.

As i returned to the office a wonderful double rainbow looped over the cows
