A bright sunny morning with a fresh breeze. Entering south field, the sound of Skylarks singing hits me immediately. Three can be seen hovering a few meters above the grass, tiny wings battling the wind to stay still. One more appears and fly’s high above my head to sing down at me.

A patch of Field Vetch catches my eye, the line of purple trumpet like flowers sticking up above the tall grass. Various yellow flowers can also be seen in the area. Hawksbeard stands tall over the others Dandelion like flowers just starting to unfurl in the morning sun. Field Buttercups sway gently in the breeze and the morning sun makes the shiny petals glint. Birdsfoot Trefoil creeps its way round the bottom of all the tall surrounding plants, little yellow flowers visible through the longer grass. Yellow Rattle can also be seen in flower where the grass is shorter, though the flowers are just about to go over.

In Saxon, Fern finds a patch of grass that smells particularly nice, as she checks are smell mail, I spot a patch of three Common Spotted Orchids that are starting to go over and into seed. Next to the Orchids some Stinking Iris is also going over and into seed, the parts just below the flower swelling to resemble a rugby ball.

Through the drove to Centenary field, the drove is lined with tall Wild Carrot in flower and Dog Rose with delicate pink flowers. In Centenary the field seems awash with bright pink with hundreds of Common Sainfoin in the flower. Oxeye Daises are also in flower towering over the small Sainfoin. Amongst these some small fluffy purple flowers also catch my eye, as some Lesser Knap Weed is starting to flower.

Heading back through light house field, a White Throat sings atop a Hawthorn bush. While a Great Tit passes by with an insect in its beak, perhaps to feed a hungry brood somewhere within the scrub.
