Amongst the dappled shade by the timeline, a furry of insects were sent into flight. In the castle moth trap (set for Duke & Ryan), a Pine Hawk Moth was easily seen. Herring Gulls drifted, presumably upon a thermal, over the undercliff. Half a dozen Woodpigeon were flushed from the Amphitheatre. Mallows competed with thick grass growth above the Globe. Forget Me Not and Wild Cabbage bloomed with being swamped.

Again, a Roe fawn was seen at the cliff edge near the observation point. Shinny nosed and without antlers. It moved on during my watching only to itch then browse closer to the cliff edge. Plenty of Cuckoo Spit sheltering Leaf Hopper Nymphs was upon coastal Blackthorn. One Gannet circling became three such birds offshore from the Globe. Pristine  white birds with black wing tips, and yellow faces pointing down seeking fish. Later, two more were spotted off Anvil Point.

Over on hundred sea birds were upon the water, but close to the cliffs. Amongst the Guillemots, eight Razorbills were counted. Reassuringly Fulmars arced in flight, Jackdaws dove down the rock face and Shag flew over the brine. Blue Tits were amongst Tamarisk (as were flowering Honeysuckle) and dangling amongst Holm Oak flowers. Overhead it was a Swallow that passed by. Small yellow “pom, pom” flowers with three clover leaves were those of Black Medic beside the coast path.

Upon reaching Tilly Whim, Skylark song reached my ears. Thick carpets of Kidney Vetch spread between mile markers and Lighthouse. Bumble Bees were active amongst the blooms. Further, upslope the yellow mat was now composed of Horseshoe Vetch. A second Roe Deer was found below the Lighthouse, sat down amongst tall grass.

Upon the downland slope an Adonis Blue was clearly observed as it stopped to bask. Its white wing edges with black markings therein being the indicator. Other “Blues” were seen along with a quartet of butterflies in completing courtship flight. It was a treat to discover a shed Adder skin, some ten centimetres long, above the demo quarr.
