Outside the office a Bullfinch duo perched, and a few Goldfinches passed through a bare Sycamore. Cloud cover did increase but luckily the greyness stayed to the north, leaving only duo on the ground. I admired the work of our first machine cut & collect about the car parks & meadow paths. Reducing nutrients and encourage folk to keep to the paths.
In South Field my eyes were confused with the meeting of Blackthorn blossom and Branching Lichen. Both thorn’s blossom exhibited “eye lash stamen”. Small Copse had sprigs od Ash leaves peeking out. I discovered that some soggy gateways had returned! Saxon delighted me with Cowslips and Early Purple Orchids. A Cranefly flew just above dense, coarse grass.
A hovering Kestrel was later to easily viewed as it paused in a Hawthorn crown. Later it was seen active again. Upon the ridge a bounty of Early Spider Orchids was joined with an eruption of Yellow Wort leaves. A specimen of the former had a thin two centime Black Slug upon it. Further on, another Black Slug was the size of a thicky, stumpy sausage. Becoming swamped amongst grass was the fluff and yellow of a Kidney Vetch flower. Green Winged Orchid and Milkwort were also enjoyed upon the downland ridge. I was happy to find, again, a Yellowhammer in what has become its spot. Chickweed flower was yet to emerge.
At the dew pond, tiny white Common Water Crowfoot flowers dotted the waters surface beside a clump of Flag Iris leaves. Looking Lama or Alpaca like was a grumpy looking Sika Deer amongst Gorse. It had stumps where antlers would emerge.
Two Pin Cushion Galls were spotted upon Wild Rose tendrils poked above a wall. “Elephant Ears” Burdock leaves were showing as were clumped of Goosegrass, both will be attempting to have their seed bods transported my mammals including humans!
