A brighter morning than the pervious few days already it is comfortably warm as I leave the centre at 8am. I descend the car park into the woodland which is several degrees cooler, above I hear the calls of a Chiffchaff and a Blackbird. I pause to take in the damp earthy smell as a Grey Squirrel darts across the path in front of me most upset with me for disturbing their morning foraging.
I head down the diagonal path the sea is very flat a good day for spotting dolphins which are still eluding me. A loud whoosh over head as a small flock of Feral Doves rush overhead down towards the cliffs. The cliffs themselves are a noisy hub with the grunts of Guillemots and the croaking of a raven.
As I head into lighthouse field I spot a Marbled White on a Greater Knapweed flower, its wings opened showing off its striking black and white marbled pattern. The Marbled Whites were out in force several dozen in the lighthouse gully.
I paused to watch a pair of Lulworth Skippers dancing around a patch of Wild Thyme.
I walked up the hill back towards the centre enjoying the melodic song of a Skylark and the scratchy tune of a Greater Whitethroat.
